Chapter 2 - Preparing the Installer Laptop

If you are taking this course online, you may request a CD-ROM copy of all of these course materials for a small shipping and handling fee. If you do not have or do not want the CD-ROM, you will need to obtain the installation and commissioning software from the Ground Control Website.

It is wise to have a copy of the training material in case you loose the original, and in case you forget something while on site.

Install the Commissioning Software

This software can be found on the Training CD-ROM, in the Software directory. If you do not have the Training CD-ROM, you may obtain these software utilities by emailing Support@GroundControl.com with your installer ID and the GC number of the site you'll be working on.

If you're installing a Galileo System, you'll need to install the CPE Wizard software. Like all included utilities, this can be found in the "Software" directory of the CD-ROM. Please follow all on-screen instructions to install the software. This software should only be used while commissioning a modem at the customer site - a galileo modem cannot be "pre configured" off-site.

If you're installing an iDirect system, you'll need the iSight Software. After installing, you may familiarize yourself with the controls of the program, as the iSight software may be used on any iDirect modem at any time, assuming that you have the IP address and it's password.

Both the CPE Wizard and the iSight software will be discussed in greater detail later.

Install Satmaster "QuickAim"

Run the "Setup.exe" utility in the QuickAim folder in the software directory. This utility will generate pointing parameters for any satellite in known orbit from any point on earth. It is used to do the first "rough pointing" of the antenna before the fine adjustments are made.
