Meeting The Client

Everyone likes to make a good impression when meeting the client. The good news is that the customer is probably excited about the new satellite system installed, and the initial meeting will almost always have a postive tone.

Listen, Listen, & Listen!

A very good technique for the initial meeting is simply to listen to what the customer wishes, and ask them questions about what they are looking to accomplish. This does two things, it informs the installer exaclty what needs to be done, and it gives the client an opportunity to make his thoughts known. The customer may have even picked out a suitable installation location, and figured out how to get the cables from the roof to their server room. They also probably know where they want to install the IDU, which is pretty much ALL of the information you'll need from the client to perform your installation

Things to Ask or Listen For:

Where is the dish to be installed?

Where is the IDU to be installed?

What is the best route to run the coax cables?

After the customer has made their suggestions, you should offer up your own ideas if they differ. Clearly explain why, and be precice about what you are suggesting to do differently.

Other Things You Want To Know

* Is there a working telephone that can be used? (in case Cell Phone reception is not available).
* Will someone be available after you have activated the system to connect to their network?
(Remember that you are rarily responsible for networking outside of one connected customer computer).
* Where is the closest AC outlet for roof power? (in the remote case you need power).
* Will someone be available to help you if you need to lift or move something?
