Photos of Hughes 9201 BGAN Satellite Terminal

There are only two buttons on the BGAN terminal. One to turn the power on, and the other to turn on/off the audible beeper that gives real time feedback for quickly pointing the terminal.   The Hughes 9201 satellite Internet BGAN terminal is the size of a laptop and can transmit and receive speeds up to 492Kbps in most parts of the world. The system may be purchased from or taken into any country.

The back side of the Hughes 9201 BGAN terminal. There is a build in compass on the top right hand side. Note the 4 holes on the back used to mount the system on an exterior wall.   On top, is the battery port which is next to the Sim Card slot.

The BGAN Sim Card, much like the sim card in a cell phone, is used to track account usage. You may purchase multiple sim cards for multiple accounts using the same BGAN terminal.   Starting from the right, note the ISDN port (that connects to the Terminal Adapter or other capable ISDN device), the Ethernet port for connecting a computer or router, a USB port and the external power port (held open with a thumb).

The optional Hughes Terminal Adapter when connected to the 9201 terminal gives you dial tone to attach a standard phone (Tel 1) and Fax (Tel 2) with their own unique phone numbers. Make, send or receive calls or faxes from anyone in the world.   The Hughes 9201 terminal has a built-in wireless system that allows for multiple computers to connect to the system up to 100 feet. You may also connect a standard phone and fax machine to the unit* and make a call to anyone for .99 cents a minute.

Even in remote regions, the BGAN terminal can be easily deployed and connected to the Internet in minutes. In this photo, the laptop is connecting directly to the terminal by ethernet. This is not necessary if wireless is enabled in the terminal.
On top of a mountain, inside of a tent, the Hughes 9201 will operate up to 36 hours on a single rechargeable battery. Extra batteries or folding solar panels are available. Setup takes about 3 minutes for anyone to point the antenna and connect at broadband speeds.

* A terminal adapter (shown in the picture just above in the hard case) is needed to connected a standard phone or fax to the 9201 terminal.
