The MCD-PILOT "Mobile Communications Device", operates where other satellite services drop off, including the north and south poles... making it ideal for primary or backup comms when other service are no longer available. The MCD-PILOT automatically connects with the Iridium network at the touch of a button and requires no user training to operate. Simply place the IP67 waterproof case on the ground, or on a boat deck, or on any surface with a clear view of any sky, rain or shine, anywhere in the world and turn it on - no pointing necessary. Within a minute the MCD-PILOT becomes a powerful WiFi hotspot accessible by any wireless device within a 30 meters for up to 6 hours on internal battery power. This auto-pointing solution uses the Iridium Pilot maritime satellite terminal integrated with our proprietary mobile electronics for a ruggedized self-contained, in-field, user-friendly 100% global communications link. |
While the MCD-PILOT is primarily used as a wireless hotspot, the front panel includes a weather sealed Ethernet port and two phone ports for connecting a standard phone. The charge port has a watertight seal for powering or recharging the system via the AC/DC power supply.

The larger transport case above places the domed antenna and transceiver case inside for a one-case solution. Ethernet, Phone and Power ports are accessible externally.
The service area of the MCD-PILOT is global under the same service plan from Ground Control or other Iridium Openport service provider. Internet speeds are up to 128 Kbps and two phone ports are issued international phone numbers, although these numbers may be given a local numbers from most major countries with Ground Control.
The MCD-PILOT is portable transceiver case is IP67 rated which mean it may be submerged in 1 meter for 30 minutes without any perceivable damage. For extreme weather, having the case enclosed inside of a larger case insulates it for cold weather operation. The large case lid does not need to be opened in order for it to fully function.

Above, the MCD-Pilot is used for drifting ice observations in the Artic with wind chills of -50°F (-45° C) without operational issues to equipment or cabling.
The MCD-PILOT is built upon the Iridium Pilot maritime satellite communications terminal, which means it's designed to work in a harsh maritime environment. While the MCD-PILOT may be used as a primary communication link, is can also be seen as an emergency or backup link for when a primary connection fails, or when venturing outside of a primary service range. |
