Use a standard phone with a standard phone number, that works identically to any landline phone with Ground Control Satellite Optimized VoIP phone service. Not all VoIP is the same, especially when it comes to making calls over satellite. Ground Control's VoIP service delivers crystal clear calls over our iDirect Network that boasts a bit error rate better than 10-9 (which is defined as a clear channel and perfect for VoIP). Our network latency is one of the lowest in the satellite industry (500 milliseconds) minimizing the delay between conversing parties, making it virtually unnoticeable. Trust that we take care of the complexities of VoIP so you can take care of business.

1. Pick a phone.
Any phone will work with the $99 Linksys ATA phone adapter below. |
2. Choose The VoIP Service Plan
There is only one service plan to choose. 1000 minutes (16.6 hours) for $49.95 a month. You may also include other services shown below. |
3. Choose a phone number from any area.
You may choose any number from most any location. A person with a satelite dish in Afghanistan may wish to have a U.S. based phone number. This allows for the least expensive calling for those in the U.S. that wish to communicate with Afghanistan and visa-versa. |
4. Plug the phone into the Satellite LAN.
After your account is provisioned, your phone will have a standard dial tone, a "local" number, and the ability to make and receive calls from anyone on the planet. |
When Voice Over IP is critical, it must be prioritized over other traffic on the link with QoS (Quality of Service) or voice quality may lower and "drop-outs" may occur. Also, a 20x20Kbps CIR (Committed Information Rate) is applied assuring that full speed will always be available for the voice stream. In many cases Priority VoIP is not needed, however if you wish to have crystal clear optimized VoIP traffic, you may upgrade to this service at any time. Priority VoIP is $80 (USD) per month.
(when calling the U.S. or Canada)
No matter where you satellite dish is located on the planet, you may assign it a U.S. or Canadian phone number and receive 1000 minutes (16.6 hours) for $49.95 a month. After you have reached the 1000 minutes, you are charged $0.04 (4 cents U.S.) per minute. Need to make an "International" call outside of the assigned country local number? Our international rates are excellent.
Connect as many phones through the satellite link as there is capacity. Each phone uses a 20x20 Kbps stream when in use, so you are limited by the uplink channel speed. For example, if you have a 1Mbps uplink, you could expect 25 phones talking simultaneously.
Phones you provision through Ground Control may be used anywhere, not just over the satellite connection for which they are optimized. Simply connect the phone to any Ethernet port that issues a (DHCP ) IP address, and our servers will establish a link with the phone and activate it for use. This "use anywhere" feature is perfect for individuals who travel or have multiple offices.
