Step 1. Pick A Phone
Any corded or cordless phone will work with the $99 Linksys ATA phone adapter. We also highly recommend our Polycom Soundport 550 VoIP phone for a time-tested, field proven solution. |

Step 2. Choose The VoIP Standard Service Plan
There is only one service plan to choose. 1000 minutes (16.6 hours) for $49.95 a month. Anything over 16.6 hours is charged a reasonable 4 cents a minute. You may also include other optional services with your standard plan. |

Step 3. Choose A Phone Number From Any Area
You may choose any number from most any location. A person with a satellite dish in Oregon (or Afghanistan) may wish to have a Denver phone number. Callers simply dial the Denver number and the VoIP satellite phone rings in Oregon (or Afghanistan). |

Step 4. Plug Phone Into The Ground Control Satellite LAN
After your account is provisioned, your phone will have a standard dial-tone, a "local" number, and the ability to make and receive calls from anyone on the planet. |
Standard VoIP Service
For $49.95 a month, talk for 1000 minutes (16.6 hours) which is $0.05 cents per minute. Additional minutes are billed at $0.04 cents per minute. Service begins upon provisioning of VoIP phone and activation of VoIP service. Service includes voicemail, call activity, call forwarding, speed dialing, and a web interface to check status and change parameters. Priority VoIP Service - Optional
When Voice Over IP is critical, it must be prioritized over other traffic on the link with QoS (Quality of Service) or voice quality may lower and "drop-outs" may occur. Also, a 20x20Kbps CIR (Committed Information Rate) is applied assuring that full speed will always be available for the voice stream. In many cases Priority VoIP is not needed, however if you wish to have crystal clear optimized, guaranteed voice communication, you may upgrade to this service at any time. Priority VoIP is $80 (USD) per month.
Priority FoIP Service - FAX Compliant - Optional
Similar to the VoIP service, Ground Control offers a clear compatible channel for FAX transmissions using any fax machine with a standard RJ-11 connection. We use the optimal G.711u 80 Kbps codec to optimize fax transmissions from any location in the world. Here is more information on the Fax Over Satellite service from Ground Control.
International Phone Number - Optional
You may have a local phone number from most ANY country. Our 1000 minute $49.95 rate will apply to most territories for calls made to or from that country. Please call Ground Control for more information on rates and country availability. |
Connect as many phones through the satellite link as there is capacity. Each phone uses a 20x20 Kbps stream when in use, so the connection is well within the uplink channel speed. For example, if you have a 1Mbps uplink, you could easily have 10 (or more) phones talking simultaneously. And at 20Kbps, you can talk for 6.6 minutes before you transfer one Megabyte.
VoIP phones provisioned by Ground Control may be used anywhere, not just over the satellite connection for which they are optimized. Simply connect the phone to any Ethernet port that issues a (DHCP) IP address, and our servers will establish a link with the phone and activate it for use. This "Follow Me" feature is perfect for individuals who travel or have multiple offices.
Most wired or wireless SIP phones work with our VoIP service, however, we recommend the systems below that we will configure, provision and test before shipping. All you need to do is plug it in.

The Linksys ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) allows you to purchase ANY normal phone, wired or wireless. You may connect up to 2 phones directly, each with different phone numbers. The Linksys cost is $99.
