KIM2 Shield
The KIM2 Shield is a versatile, ready-to-use development board designed to simplify the evaluation and integration of the embedded KIM2 satellite modem.
Operating on the global Kinéis Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, this shield allows developers to quickly prototype satellite IoT connectivity, remote sensor monitoring, and GPS-free Doppler positioning for custom field applications.
Key Capabilities
Transmission over global Kinéis satellite network
Compatible with Arduino Uno and STM32 Nucleo
Direct PC connection for standalone testing
Bi-directional messaging support
Compact Kinéis Evaluation Board
The KIM2 Shield provides a practical platform for testing Kinéis satellite communications in remote IoT applications. Built around the embedded KIM2 modem, the shield allows engineering teams to verify message transmission, test network protocols, and evaluate performance on the Kinéis constellation without needing custom RF hardware during early development phases.
For teams exploring environmental monitoring hardware, maritime tracking, or agricultural sensors on the Kinéis network, the shield offers a simple starting point for bench testing. The unit functions as a standalone development board connected directly to a PC via USB, allowing engineers to send test commands and verify configuration parameters out of the box.

Flexible Microcontroller Integration
To simplify testing alongside common microcontroller platforms, the KIM2 Shield features stackable pin headers compatible with Arduino Uno and STM32 Nucleo boards. This setup enables developers to write and evaluate custom firmware within familiar open-source environments. A 50-ohm female SMA connector provides a standard connection for matched Kinéis-compatible antennas.
Initial testing is supported by a dedicated Graphical User Interface (GUI) application. Through the software, developers can adjust modem settings, send test payloads across Kinéis waveforms, verify downlink reception, and calculate satellite pass predictions. For embedded software development, the onboard KIM2 modem accepts standard AT commands over UART, giving engineers direct control during functional testing.
