RockREMOTE Mini and RockREMOTE Rugged are designed to capture and transmit heavy machinery telemetry data in the harshest environments. They are rugged tough devices with minimal power draw and leverage the Iridium network, offering global pole-to-pole coverage with low latency.

Mini is smaller, lighter, and draws less power; Rugged has dual-mode cellular/satellite capabilities, and is also fully programmable – you can use licensed apps, or build your own.

The Orbcomm ST 6100 features a variety of input/output interfaces, enabling integration with a wide range of sensors and devices. It utilizes the Viasat satellite network of geostationary satellites.

FAQs About Satellite IoT For Heavy Machinery

Satellite IoT is designed for assets operating beyond dependable cellular coverage. The right network depends on where the machinery will be used, whether it moves, and whether the antenna can maintain a suitable view of the sky.

You can transmit location, operating hours, fuel levels, temperatures, fault codes, movement events and other telemetry available from the machine or connected sensors. The appropriate device depends on how much data you need to send and how frequently it must be delivered.

Not always. Tracking updates, alerts and periodic telemetry can often use lower-cost message-based services, while remote access, richer diagnostics, images or more frequent data transfer may require an IP connection.

Usually, yes. Satellite terminals can connect to trackers, sensors, controllers and telematics gateways through interfaces such as serial, Ethernet or configurable I/O. Data can then be sent into Cloudloop or integrated with an existing fleet or asset management platform.

The main considerations are data volume, reporting frequency, power availability, installation environment, asset mobility and whether cellular connectivity should be used when available. Ground Control can help match those requirements to the most suitable hardware, network and airtime plan.
