Kymeta Flat Panel Satellite Terminals

Kymeta flat panel satellite terminals deliver reliable broadband connectivity for land vehicles and remote sites where traditional communications fall short.
With low profile hardware, no moving parts, and support for both GEO and OneWeb LEO services,
Kymeta offers a flexible and efficient way to stay connected in the field or on the move.

Kymeta terminals use electronically steered antenna technology to maintain a connection without manual alignment. This supports consistent connectivity across mobile and fixed deployments, with a form factor that is compact and easy to integrate.

Two options are available, supporting Geostationary (GEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks, allowing you to select the appropriate level of performance and coverage for your application.

Kymeta Hawk u8 GEO

The Kymeta Hawk u8 GEO is a low profile, electronically steered satellite terminal designed to deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity for users on the move or at rest across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Offering speeds of up to 5 Mbps downlink and 2 Mbps uplink, it combines a rugged, aerodynamic design with simple, ‘plug and play’ operation that only requires power to establish a connection.

With no moving parts, the system reduces maintenance requirements and removes the need for deployment or stowage, making it a practical solution for continuous connectivity. This product is well suited to commercial fleet operators, emergency response teams, broadcast media, and users who need dependable regional connectivity without complex setup or ongoing maintenance.

Kymeta Hawk u8 LEO

The Kymeta Hawk u8 LEO delivers high throughput, low latency connectivity through integration with OneWeb’s LEO satellite network. With speeds up to 150 Mbps downlink and 30 Mbps uplink and latency as low as 70 ms, it provides seamless, uninterrupted performance enabled by advanced multipanel, ‘make-before-break’ technology. Its compact, lightweight design and simple installation allow it to be deployed across vehicles and fixed sites with minimal effort.

This solution is ideal for government agencies, defense operations, enterprise organizations, and mobility-focused industries that require mission critical, real-time communications with global coverage.

The Kymeta Hawk u8 GEO is available in several different configurations:

  1. Kymeta u8 GEO Terminal, 20 W BUC, IQ 200, LTE Advanced Pro
  2. Kymeta u8 GEO GO Terminal, 20 W BUC, IQ 200, LTE Advanced Pro
  3. Kymeta u8 GEO Terminal, 20 W BUC, IQ 200
  4. Kymeta u8 GEO GO Terminal, 20 W BUC, IQ 200
  5. Kymeta u8 GEO ODU, 20 W BUC
  6. Kymeta u8 GEO ODU GO, 20 W BUC

Options 1-4 are turnkey terminal configurations, and include the Kymeta u8 GEO terminal with 20 W low profile BUC and embedded iDirect iQ 200 satellite modem card, with or without embedded LTE Advanced Pro modem card (Global or North America and Public Safety configuration).

The ‘GO’ system further includes:

  • u8 terminal
  • 20° kickstand (for use on the pause)
  • Vehicle mounting system
  • AC-to-DC universal power kit
  • Stackable hard shell case.

Options 5 and 6 require that the customer provide their own external iDirect satellite modem (X7, iQ 200, or 9350), with the ‘GO’ system the same as above.

The Kymeta Hawk u8 LEO includes both OneWeb and OneWeb-LTE configurations.

The OneWeb-LTE version further includes the following features:

  • Cellular modem with 600 Mbps LTE-A Pro, available in both Global and FirstNet configurations
  • WiFi interface supporting 802.11b/g/n standards.

In addition, the Kymeta Hawk u8 LEO OneWeb-LTE is heavier at 31.1 kg and has a slightly higher steady power rate – 125W compared to 95W.

Both the OneWeb and OneWeb-LTE versions are available in GO configurations which further include:

  • Ruggedized transport case with built-in tie-down points and fast water drainage
  • Versatile universal clamp mount (for use on variety of surfaces including boats and buildings)
  • Vehicle mounting system
  • AC-to-DC universal power kit.

Ground Control will give you advice on the best configuration for your needs, and quote based on this. Note that irrespective of your configuration choice, the u8 typically requires a mounting option and power cables – please see Accessories (below).

Kymeta Broadband Coverage

Kymeta connectivity for u8 terminals is offered via an iDirect Evolution-based network that aggregates a growing number of satellite providers. Delivered largely via geostationary satellites (GEO), but also able to work with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations. With no required mechanical components to point toward a satellite, the Ku-band terminals are able to serve many land mobility markets around the world with high-quality Communications-On-The-Move (COTM) and Communications-On-The-Pause (COTP).

Kymeta Broadband service is currently available in four geographical regions: North America, Europe, Middle East, and East Asia and includes a growing number of countries.

OneWeb Coverage

Utilizing OneWeb’s extensive Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, Kymeta u8 LEO terminals provide high-throughput Communications-On-The-Move (COTM) and Communications-On-The-Pause (COTP).

Effortlessly tracking OneWeb’s satellite fleet across the sky to ensure seamless broadband internet access, users also benefit from reduced ‘ping’ times. With satellites positioned about 30 times closer to Earth’s surface compared to geostationary orbit, latency can reach as low as 70ms, making it perfect for real-time applications like video conferencing.

OneWeb’s LEO service is currently accessible in North America, Europe and the North Polar regions, with full global coverage anticipated by the end of 2023.
