Global Ethernet Ports The Hughes 9502 has unique features that make it possibly the best remote communication solution for low-bandwidth or high-bandwidth M2M, SCADA, or any IP device control:
It is a high-speed, real-time Ethernet port to the Internet for any TCP-IP/Serial M2M, SCADA device. The connection is always live 24 hours a day 7 days a week from most locations on the globe. map It operates in extreme hot or cold temperatures -40°F to 167°F (-40° to 75° C) using only 4 watts. Can use special BGAN M2M service with that does not charge for overhead networking costs. New Month-To-Month M2M Service Plans.. No long term commitments - more New Prepaid M2M plans. Purchase bulk Megabytes that can be used anytime for 1 year - more Ideal for low-bandwidth remote communication that uses from 2 to 50 Megabytes per month. Unlimited Use BGAN plans are also available for the 9502 - more BGAN M2M service only bills for the meaningful data transferred through the terminal, and not for
overhead, connection charges, or any data not from the attached equipment or client network. Global Coverage - Equipment can be located anywhere without notification to Ground Control. Ubiquitous Global Network - Use the same service provider (Ground Control) for all remote locations. When a critical issue arises, having broadband 448 Kbps communication speed is always available. The data connection is open, and stays alive. No wake-up operation needed to transmit/receive. It is secure from hackers with powerful firewall rules in place, or use a private network for ultimate. It draws only 3 to 4 watts for an always open TCP-IP network connection. Hibernation mode draws
just 0.01 watt and wakes up (in 30 seconds) on any LAN activity - Excellent for small solar installations. SMS messaging control. Hibernate, Activate, Get usage totals, all from any authorized browser. It does not require a laptop, or certified technician to install at remote locations. more Serial RS232 M2M devices may use a simple serial to ethernet adapter. more Service Fees for BGAN M2M start at $23.99 a month for 2 MB Plan. Hughes 9502 may be configured to operate with standard BGAN and BGAN Link Service. more info
Low Service Costs - Starting at $23.99 a month Low KiloByte Cost - Pay For Only What You Transfer. The 9502 uses special M2M BGAN service that
charges between 1 to 2 cents per Kilobyte! Excellent for small packet communication. And BGAN M2M service does NOT bill for
overhead data related to
establishing (or reestablishing) a connection to the High-Speed satellite network. This is a great deal for remote device control.
Hughes 9502 BGAN Service Options While the Hughes 9502 was designed for BGAN M2M service, it may also use standard BGAN service or unlimited use Standard+ service... details below.
BGAN M2M Service - Used for equipment that transfer from 2 to 50 Megabytes per month. Plans starting at $23.99/mo. This service is what the Hughes 9502 was designed for - more
Standard BGAN Service - The Hughes 9502 can use the standard BGAN service used by all BGAN terminals including the new Standard+ Tiered plan that includes an Unlimited usage tier for high volume months... Plans start at $63 per month - more
BGAN Standard+ - Finally, the Hughes 9502 may use the new Standard+ plans that offer a tiered plan starting at $63 a month and includes Unlimited usage tier at less than a $0.10 per MB when transferring over 10 Gigabytes a month- more
Satellite Dishes vs BGAN M2M Technology A satellite dish (VSAT) may have cheaper service to transmit large amounts of data, but VSAT dishes are bulky, require certified installation, use more far more power (100-150 watts vs 4 watts), and the signal can be knocked off with wind snow or ice. And if the dish is moved off signal with wind, it will require a certified installer to drive to the site to repoint. In contrast, the Hughes 9502 is extremely small, and operates very well in extreme weather snow/ice and high winds. It also DOES NOT require a certified installer since anyone may point a BGAN terminal. And it will take a lot of snow and ice to knock a system offline.. far more than a satellite dish. Pointing a 9502 is not as critical as with VSAT dishes and slight misalignments won't effect connectivity. The power draw of a 9502 is a fraction of VSAT systems (.01 to 4 watts) and excellent for remote solar installations. As for transferring data, most M2M devices, POS terminals, or any other IP device can be tweaked to send small amounts of data making the $23.99 monthly fee a very cost effective, reliable solution. Monitor and control all rural or urban assets anywhere on the globe and with one service provider.
Choose Your Form Factor The One-Piece and Two-Piece 9502 terminals operate identically. Where the One-Piece places the 9502 transceiver behind the antenna, the Two-Piece system lets you place the transceiver inside of an enclosure or inside of a building.
A nice feature about the One-Piece is that there is no bulky antenna cable to deal with, and you only need to run an Ethernet cable and a 12-24 volt DC power line to the terminal. However, the 2-Piece is less expensive, and you only need to run the antenna cable between it and the transceiver... Here is a link to the optional $195 Enclosure.
Hughes 9502 Stays Online 24 x 7 The 9502 maintains an around-the-clock live TCP-IP connection over the BGAN satellite network drawing only 3 to 4 watts of power. This means ANY
TCP-IP
device using an Ethernet connection to the 9502 is always able to communicate over the network to any IP address on the Internet instantly.
IP Watchdog - The Network Must Stay Alive The Hughes 9502 has a unique watchdog option where the terminal will ping an external IP address after a set period of time and if it not successful, the terminal will reset, reestablishing the network connection automatically. Below is the configuration screen for setting up the watchdog service.
Hibernation Mode - For Extremely Low Power Locations
Hibernation mode drops the power usage of the 9502 to a tiny 0.01 watts, and any LAN activity will "Wake" the 9502 in about 30 seconds for full network connectivity (at 4 watts). The 9502 can be "triggered" to sleep for a set period of idle time (such as 10 minutes)...and maintain the Internet connection until LAN activity is idle for another period (such as 10 minutes as shown below).
Wake-On-LAN also allows the 9502 to automatically wake the terminal once a day using the "Triggered at Time of Day (UTC)" option shown above by simply entering the time of day (UTC) that unit is to power on.
The low-power advantage of the Hughes 9502 terminal makes remote operations viable from smaller solar... or even battery-only installations.
Hughes 9502 Enclosure - $195 This sealed all-weather enclosure is specifically designed for the Hughes 9502 (2-piece) and customer equipment. Pre-wired for most any customer solution to be added inside. This enclosure is NEMA rated at 3, 3X. Information on Hughes 9502 Enclosure
Easy To Install
While a laptop is handy for pointing the 9502, it is not required. Many installs may be in awkward locations, such as on a pole or building side. In these cases, a pair of headphones use the audio port of the 9502 for and audible signal strength tone for pointing. We recommend the 9502 be configured to operate with connected equipment prior to remote installation... So during installation, the only action required is mounting and pointing. Excellent for non-trained personnel, or for installers who don't wish to contend with a laptop.
Global Coverage and Service Service for the 9502 is global except for extreme north and south polar regions. The terminal may move anywhere on the globe at any time with the same service plan. BGAN M2M Coverage Map BGAN M2M Service
