have access to streaming services, which are simply unshared connections to the Internet backbone. While streaming video is possible with standard "background IP" connections (see examples below), the streaming services are ideal for avoiding video or audio drop outs that can occur on a shared service. Streaming is Charged by the Minute, while the standard connection is Charged by the Megabyte Transferred.

The option to choose streaming services for your BGAN Network connection is located from the BGAN Launchpad application from your connected computer. While the BGAN terminal is pointed at the satellite, open up the launchpad application and click on the Data tab to display the option of Connect Standard (per Megabyte charge) or any of the available Streaming (per minute charge) services.
NOTE - Advanced users can configure a system so that registration can automatically connect with a streaming service, avoiding using the launchpad.
All streaming services are available on all BGAN plans with Ground Control upon request. Normally streaming service options on the launchpad are deactivated (grayed out) by Ground Control in order to protect customers from accidentally selecting a streaming service and be charged by the minute.

- 450 Kbps Streaming Service
In 2009, Inmarsat launched BGAN X-Stream which allowed the Hughes 9201 and the Explorer 700 to stream up to 450 Kbps. According to Inmarsat, X-Stream delivers IP data no less than a minimum speed of 384 kilobits per second (kbps), and up to 450Kbps. BGAN X-Stream may be selected on the BGAN Launchpad.
